The D.Ed programme at UCF is ideal for academically qualified individuals with several years of experience in the education sector, including those with teaching, management, or administrative roles. Additionally, candidates should have a strong desire to address specific issues within their professional practice rather than focusing on narrow theoretical fields.

What is the structure of the D.Ed programme?

The D.Ed programme has a duration of minimum 3 years (6 semesters) and a maximum of 8 years (16 semesters), comprising a total of 80 credit hours. The structure includes compulsory and specialization courses, as well as a dissertation component. The coursework is divided across three years, with specific courses offered each semester. Each course in the programme is worth 5 credits, and the dissertation component carries 40 credits. The total of 80 credits is distributed across the coursework and dissertation stages, with varying credit allocations for each semester and year. Candidates must fulfill credit requirements for each course and successfully defend their dissertation to complete the programme.

UCF’s D.Ed programme is a professional doctorate tailored for working professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge, advance their careers, and leverage their practical experience in leadership roles within education. The programme is designed to help participants evaluate current theories and practices, formulate effective solutions to complex problems in education, apply research to real-world challenges, and contribute to the professional body of knowledge. Furthermore, the programme offers specializations in Educational Management, Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, and Educational Research.

The programme is fully delivered online via Zoom, with the option for face-to-face interaction for candidates who prefer to visit the campus. This flexible delivery method ensures accessibility for working professionals while maintaining the integrity of the learning experience.

The classes for the programme are on Saturdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm. This schedule has been designed to accommodate the needs of our students, who are predominantly working adults. Therefore, even though the programme is considered full-time, the classes are conveniently scheduled to fit around professional commitments

  • A Masters degree.
  • Training and or professional experience (approximately 3-4 years) in the field of education.
  • Other qualifications as approved by the Senate.

The intake is in April & October each year.
