What is the PGDE/MEd programme?
The Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) offered by the Center for Post Graduate Studies, University College Fairview (UCF), is a Fully Accredited Programme by the Malaysian Qualification Authority (MQA). Successful completion of this programme gives you an added advantage when you apply for a teaching job in Public, Private and International schools, in Malaysia and overseas.
- The PGDE is a teaching qualification with international recognition. Graduates can apply for registration as a teacher in Scotland with the General Teaching Council For Scotland.
- The PGDE consists of 9 courses.
- The first 3 courses introduce candidates to the psychological, philosophy and sociology of education.
- The next 4 courses focus on the International Baccalaureate (it’s framework and approaches to curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning and professional development).
- The final 2 courses are on research methodology and Trialing a method.
- Upon successful completion of the PGDE, graduates can continue towards a Master in Education(M.Ed) award upon the successful completion of an additional course, EPRO7212 – Project.

Entry Requirements
PGDE and M.Ed Programme
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA 2.50, recognised by the Malaysian or National Government or
- Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA between 2.00 to 2.50 recognised by the Malaysian or National Government and a minimum 5 years related work experience or
- Any other equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government
- *For the M.ed , only those who completed the PGDE can continue for the final semester. English Proficiency You should have: • Minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or • Minimum of B2 level of the Common European Framework (CEFR)

Employment opportunities are available for graduates with commendable results and good attitude in one of the university’s collaborative IB World Schools as full-time teachers.
Student teachers will be required have school-based experience for all the IB related courses. Teacher training at UCF is hands-on with our collaborative IB World Schools as its years of apprenticeship in its “teaching laboratories” or to borrow the term from medical education “teaching hospitals”.
Student teachers spend a substantial portion of their time in the classrooms under the guidance of their mentors, instructors and homeroom specialist teachers, just like the training of a medical doctor. The teacher training programme at UCF is based on an Integrated Curriculum taking into consideration both lectures and classroom practical training similar to an integrated medical education curriculum.
For the award of PGDE, you will need to complete 33 credits and for M.ed award (an additional 12 credits for a total of 45 credits)
Full time:
PGDE – 1 year (2 semesters)-you will be required to take 15-18 credit per semester for a total of 33 credits
M.Ed – 1.5 years (3rd semester)-you will be required to take an additional 12 credit course
Part time:
PGDE – 2 years (4 semesters)- you will be required to take between 7 -9 credits courses per semester
M.Ed – 2.5 years (5th semester)-you will be required to take an additional 12 credits course per semester
Application is open throughout the year, however, classes will commence in August/September and January/February
- Each course are scheduled for two Saturdays ( except for EIDP and EERP which is one Saturday)
- Classes are conduct via on Line (live) on the scheduled Saturdays (8.30 am – 4.30pm Malaysian Time).
Note: Students unable to attend live online session will be provided the recording of the session for their studies.
- Students will also be required to participate in the forum on our UCF Learning Platform (BeEd).
