IB Teacher Apprentice Programme

The IB Teacher Apprenticeship Programme is a fully funded, three-year professional development pathway offered by University College Fairview (UCF) in partnership with Fairview International Schools.

The programme combines a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) specialising in the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, together with paid, hands-on teaching experience in a Fairview International School.

Unlike a traditional teaching practicum, apprentices serve as practising teachers, teaching approximately 24–28 periods per week while completing their academic studies.

Ideal candidates are:

• Recent graduates or alumni from any academic discipline

• Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA of 3.50 or equivalent

• Individuals aspiring to build a career in international education

• Native English speakers are preferred (particularly UK citizens)

• No prior teaching qualification is required

Applicants should demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching, mentoring young people, and contributing to international education. Priority will be given to candidates with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to professional growth.

The scholarship includes:

• Full tuition fees for the Master of Education with PGDE (IB Pathway)

• Monthly Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)

• Accommodation throughout the programme

• Annual return airfare between the candidate’s home country and Malaysia

• Full visa sponsorship and processing

There are no upfront programme costs for successful candidates.

Upon successful completion of the three-year programme, graduates will receive:

• Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and recognised by UK ENIC (formerly UK NARIC)

• Master of Education (M.Ed.)

• Eligibility to pursue the IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning

• Eligibility to pursue the IB Advanced Certificate in Teaching and Learning Research after completing three years of teaching experience

• A guaranteed two-year teaching appointment within the Fairview network of schools (a requirement for scholarship recipients)

• The PGDE qualification is recognised for employment in private and international schools in Malaysia and many countries abroad.

• University College Fairview is registered with the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

• The programme’s qualifications are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Accommodation

• Fully provided by the placement school.

Classes

• Conducted live via video conferencing on scheduled Saturdays.

• Class hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Malaysia Time).

  • Academic support materials

The application process consists of the following stages for August or January intake each year.

2. Participate in an AI-assisted interview

3. Attend a live interview with the selection panel

4. Evaluation, interview report, and recommendation

5. Notification of application outcome
